Specialist Classes

Some character concepts don't quite fit into two of the main Archetypes (Battle, Cunning, Thought, Charm). Specialist Classes offer an alternative that uses custom Archetypes tailored to a specific class. For example, a Thief might be a Lockpick and a Conman, or a Thug and a Highwayman.

Each Specialist Class has a primary skill, a stunt, and five Archetypes. Players that choose a Specialist Class need to choose a Primary and Secondary Archetype. As with the main archetypes, these grant +2 and +1 skills respectively, one of which from each can be bumped up a level. Archetypes also include a corresponding stunt.

Players using a Specialist Class should note that they start with one fewer +1 skill than other players. In other words, it takes one session for a Specialist to reach the same number of skills as a standard class.

Example

Sarah is looking to play a grizzled war veteran. She likes the idea of a character that's comfortable in the outdoors and a strong fighter, but doesn't want to be a ranger. Fighter sounds interesting, but she'd like her character to have a high Will stat. Sarah decides to play a Soldier with the Vanguard and Scout Archetypes. She chooses Combat and Survival to bump up.

Specialized (+3): Combat
Trained (+2): Physique, Will, Reaction Time, Survival
Proficient (+1): Notice, Stealth
Sarah loses Athletics and Mechanics from not choosing Ranger, but gains Will and a focus on Combat. She also gets to keep her Permission slot open.
